Last summer, Kim and Justin did the DayTaster course with me and today they had their friends from Grande Prairie come out for tandem flights. The weather looked stormy in the morning (with lightning even!) but by the time we got to the mountain, it was sunny and hot.

Rick, Lee, Romain, Paul, and I hopped on the 9am Fulford ferry and were soon chatting with HGer pilot Les who predicted a good flying day. Les told us stories from the early days of hang gliding on the island that make what we do today look like a walk in the park. Seriously.

Visiting from Washington DC, Joelle and Tyler travelled over from The Aerie and met up with us on Saltspring early this morning.

I was going to head to the mountains today to take Mac's wife Linda for a tandem flight but thought it might be best to give Dallas a try so that he could get some practice in at the same time. When we arrived, Paul had just had a short flight and the wind was backing off so Mac pulled out his Arcus5 and got some very productive kiting time in.

Paul, Romain, and I met up with birthday girl Maurita and her compatriots, Chrys and Gagan, just before noon on what turned out to be one of our hottest days of the summer thus far.

Paul was first off the mountain and it wasn't long before he showed his experience, getting up over the lookout quickly in challenging conditions.

Saje - years in the making

All the way from southern Ontario, Sarah hadn't been in BC for more than a couple of days when she joined me for a tandem flight on Saltspring Island. We soared the cliffs of Mt Maxwell, yelling down to the rock climbers as we shadowed them with our glider. Definitely a memory to take back east with you Sarah!

We arrived on our sailboat late afternoon on Saturday and met up with Merwan and Romain who brought the van over for us. It was about 5pm or so when Romain, Merwan, and I each had extended sleddies from Maxwell in super smooth air.

Natalie and I sailed over Saturday afternoon and saw a couple of HGers zipping around the Fulford Valley under cumulus-filled skies (turned out to be eventual even winner Mark Tulloch, followed by local pilot Randy). Dallas Road resident pilot, Phil Rich, went on to win the PGer division.
