Prevost for Lee & Hans![]() Lee ridge soars Dallas in the morning and then Mt Prevost in the afternoon After Lee's first flight at Dallas and Hans' kiting tune-up, we headed north to Duncan to see what Mt Prevost had in store. A few other pilots had already flown in strong west conditions, but by the time we arrived on launch, it was blowing from the south. Lee reverse launched from Middle and quickly turned left and headed towards the cairn, gaining or maintaining all the way. We could see wind lines on Somenos Marsh (more of a lake right now) and it became evident that Lee was experiencing a rare south face ridge-soaring flight at Prevost - it was Lee's ridge soaring day! After a half hour of flying, I asked Lee to head out to the LZ to check his penetration and to see how the landing conditions would be for Hans. He didn't really lose any height all the way out and, once over the landing area, he even gained. I decided to talk him through some maneouvres (asymmetrics, wingovers, spirals) and he did quite well. Finally lower, Lee found the air to be a bit trashy and lifty so we decided to hold off on Hans' flight and do some parawaiting. The wind lines on Somenos lightened a bit after an hour or so and Hans reversed nicely from Middle, flying through the ridge lift towards the LZ. I launched soon after him and speed past before spiralling down through the extensive lift to land. On launch, Hans and I had discussed 'big ears' and 'bigger ears' and I talked him through them as they were definitely needed to lose altitude over the LZ. Hans had a great view of the Cowichan Valley on his first Prevost flight and handled himself quite well in the tricky conditions - way to go Hans!
